The Cheshire Sandstone Ridge rises dramatically from the Cheshire plain and covers 230 sq km of rolling hills and sandstone escarpments, punctuated with glacial meres and mosses. Stretching from Frodsham in the north to Malpas in the south, this is Cheshire's magical landscape; rich in history, geology, flora and fauna, and linked by the popular Sandstone Trail.

In June 2021 we were shortlisted for AONB designation. We are currently involved in this very lengthy and rigorous designation process. Natural England is working closely with us and other major stakeholders. An area of natural beauty with significance at the national level has now been identified and we look forward to the Desirability Assessment stage whereby it will be determined whether designation of a new National Landscape (AONB) is the best course of action for this landscape.
